Where Did Coffee Breaks Come From?
Can't imagine what your day to day job would be like without a cup of Joe?
It's not just you! If there's one thing that most business can’t survive without, it's coffee.
Can you imagine what would happen if employees could not sip coffee at their desks or in the company break room? Managers would be run up the flagpole, while employees went off to sip espresso and plot the revolution. Any business would wither and die.
Coffee and the workplace have had a close relationship for some time. The first coffee break as we know it likely happened around the turn of the 20th century. It’s believed that it was in 1900 when the Larkin Company, a hybrid soap manufacturer and mail-order company, began giving employees free coffee to drink in break rooms. As far as anyone knows, this is the earliest example of an official coffee break.
